My experience:

Ozy.com: Sept. 2013 to now. Key contributor to weekend news edition and overall news content strategy before, during and immediately after this startup’s launch.  Trained overseas staff on CMS. Overhauled pop science Acumen column, making it one of the site’s most popular sections, pitching and writing stories as well as defining the voice.

Yahoo.com: March 2010-June 2013. Programmed news, finance, sports, entertainment and lifestyle packages for the world’s most-visited Internet portal, selecting stories, cutting photos, and writing headlines and teaser copy. Helped grow Yahoo! home page and Yahoo News social media and boosted homepage SEO.

Acting homepage supervisor on weekends, holidays and early morning shifts. Managed initial breaking news coverage of Rep. Gabby Giffords shooting; coordinated reporters in the field, edited breaking-news copy and crafted front-page packages for Aurora, Colo., movie theater shooting.

Freelancer content specialist. 2006 to present. Key contributor to Realtor.com B2C content and Liberty Mutual publications. Cover real estate, lifestyle, health and music for Slate.com, The Wall Street Journal, Smithsonian Magazine online, NextAvenue.org, Parents.com, The Washington Post. Developed informational questionnaires, established work processes, updated information architecture and delivered online content for the Church Pension Group (human resources), Candice Bennett and Associates (market research), Virginia Oral Health Coalition (non-profit).

I was an Aol News producer, and before that, a daily newspaper reporter for Hearst in Albany, NY and San Antonio, Texas.

I hold a Master’s in Human-Computer Interaction from the  Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, where I studied Instructional Design, Interactive Narrative, Information Architecture, New Media Theory, and Digital Picture Processing. I developed a process to quantify usability testing of electronic scan election ballots in the United States as part of an assistantship in the schools prestigious Computer Science Engineering department.
